Toddler

At this age, children are becoming more curious about their environment. To support this, children are free to explore the classroom which stimulates natural curiosity and helps them develop essential skills through thoughtfully planned activities and guided play. These include social interaction, language development, and fine and gross motor abilities. In our toddler classroom, there is: dramatic play, blocks, puzzles, sensory table, manipulatives, an art area, a cozy area and a large carpeted area for group time, music, and movement experiences.

The toys and props regularly change in each of these areas to promote our current curriculum study. We also read our favorite books and sing songs each day during a short group time. Children are encouraged but not forced to participate in group time activities.

Our Toddler Program encourages language development by actively communicating with children during daily routines and interactive play experiences. Children are encouraged to use language to express their needs and emotions.

We increase language development using simple sentences and questions with three words or more, pretending to read a favorite book, or beginning to understand that print is useful. In physical development, our teachers encourage attempting a variety of large-muscle activities, balancing while moving arms and legs in active play, using hand-eye coordination while doing increasingly complex tasks, or grasping scissors and learning to use them to cut paper.

The schedule in our toddler programs is very flexible to meet the individual needs of each child.

Our goal is to provide a secure and enriching environment where toddlers can confidently thrive and grow, and prepare children for a  successful future  in preschool, grade school, and beyond.

Potty Training

Another focus of our Toddlers program is toilet training. Our staff encourages children to sit and attempt to use the toilet during regular diaper changing times. We recognize that each child participates in and completes the toilet training process at different paces and ages, so a child will never be forced to sit on the toilet. All attempts and successes at using the toilet are in our daily information, allowing families to have their child's progress.
